5 Little Monsters: Moss Stitch Crochet Pillow

Moss Stitch Crochet Pillow

I am sharing a new crochet pattern over on the Fairfield World site today. I wanted to make a crochet pillow cover that would be really easy, more of a beginner friendly pattern. I also thought it would be kind of fun to use some bulky yarn. Bulky yarn is fun to work with sometimes because projects that are made with it tend to be pretty quick projects. A lot of times I think people think of bulky yarns as being used more for winter/cold weather projects like scarves and hats so I wanted to find a way to make a more summertime friendly project. I thought this pillow would be the perfect way to do that.

I actually picked up the yarn a while ago on clearance not really having a specific project in mind. It is Red Heart Boutique Infinity yarn and I had picked up 2 skeins of the Denim colorway. That ended up being perfect for this project. I had used that yarn before and really liked the softness of it and the gradual color change. It also has a metallic thread running through it to give it a little bit of shimmer. The Denim colorway goes from a dark blue to almost a white. I thought that those colors would work well for summer since they would go well with a patriotic color scheme. The bulky yarn and big hook, combined with a simple stitch like the moss stitch, make for a pretty quick and easy crochet project. The pillow is made by crocheting a long strip and then folding it so that the ends overlap creating a flap opening on the back, then the sides are stitched closed.
