The yarn I used was Loops and Threads Impeccable from Michaels. I looked through the colors that I had and chose 5 that I thought worked well together. I decided on kind of a blue and green theme. The colors I chose were Clear Blue, Aqua, Soft Fern, Butterscotch, and White.
Once I had chosen my colors I had to figure out a pattern to use. There is actually quite a variety in crocheted ripple patterns but I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted. I knew I wanted something that was pretty solid, not a lot of big holes even in the points of the ripple. I also knew I wanted it to be double crochet. A lot of the patterns I saw were single crochet and making a whole blanket entirely in single crochet did not sound like a lot of fun to me, I needed something that would be quicker that that. If a project moves to slowly I tend to get a little bored and move on to something else. I thought about making up a pattern myself but I came across the Neat Ripple Pattern from Attic 24 and decided that one would work perfectly. This pattern is written in UK terms but it is pretty easy to figure out, basically anytime it says treble crochet (tr) in the pattern it would be double crochet (dc) in US terms.
I made my blanket using a starting chain of 115. I did 12 rows of double crochet in each color. I felt like that gave me a nice big section of each color. I used less than one skein of each color to make this blanket. I had already used a small amount of each color in another blanket and I still had some left of each color after finishing this blanket. My finished blanket measures about 36 x 45 inches. Get the pattern from Attic 24 here.
