Spring Chick Amigurumi

I can't believe that March is just a few days away and that means that spring is right around the corner. We have had some nice spring-ish days lately and that has made me really excited for spring. Of course this morning we got several inches of snow so obviously the spring weather is not yet here to stay. When I think of spring I think of Easter and everything that is associated with that, bunnies and chicks, carrots and Easter baskets, etc. I decided to make a couple little crochet projects for spring. I made a little baby chick and a carrot. Today I will be sharing the baby chick pattern and the carrot will be available on the Fairfield World site in a couple of days.

Sweet Stripes Crocheted Laptop Case

My last post was a pillow that I made using Premier Yarns Sweet Rolls. The pillow took one full Sweet Roll and a tiny bit of another. I ran out on my final round of the second side, so I did half of the last round, the joining round and the border out of my second roll. As a result I had almost a full Sweet Roll left. I was trying to think of something that I could make using a little less than one roll and this project is what I came up with. I ended up using pretty much the rest of the yarn, I ended with just a few yards to spare. Originally I was thinking of just making a bag but as I started I realized that what I was working on was almost the perfect size for my laptop and I thought a laptop case would be awesome, especially since I used to have a plastic cover on mine but it recently broke so a crocheted case could kind of be the replacement for that. I started over so that I could size it better for my laptop and in no time at all I had a new case for my computer. I sized it for my computer but obviously laptops come in a lot of different sizes and since this uses a simple stitch pattern it is really easy to adjust to whatever size you need.

Rounds and Ridges Crochet Pillow

Recently, well for several months now I guess, it seems like everyone in the crochet community has been obsessed with the new striped cake yarns, and now every brand is coming out with there own version. It started with Caron Cakes, then Premier Sweet Rolls, now there is Lion Brand Mandala and Bernat Pop and there may be even more but those are the ones that I know of. When they first came out I was pretty skeptical. I am not typically a huge fan of sudden color changes and to be honest, I didn't really love many of the original color combinations. I kind of thought it was way over hyped and I didn't feel like it was something I had much of a desire to try. But then I started feeling like they were such a big deal that I wasn't sure I could be taken seriously as a crochet blogger if I didn't have at least one Caron Cake or Sweet Roll project on my blog. I picked up a couple of Caron Cakes at Michaels and I was actually pleasantly surprised. The color changes didn't look bad and it was kind of fun to see the stripes appear. I am making a blanket with that yarn for my daughter, she picked out the color, and it has kind of been my project to work on between other projects so it isn't done yet. Cricut 101: Uploading Your Own Images

In the year that I have had my Cricut I have made so many different kinds of projects. Somtimes I can find exactly what I am looking for in the images available through Cricut or I can adapt one of those images to make it into what I need. But sometimes I am looking for something I can't find, or maybe I just have a specific image I want to cut out. For example, I cut out a logo sticker using my 5 Little Monsters Logo. Of course that isn't going to be available through Cricut because it was something that I designed myself, but I was able to upload that image and cut it out that way. I did the same for a logo for my husband's website. I also uploaded my own images for some of the geeky shirts that I made for my baby. I have used that feature quite a bit so today I thought I would demonstrate how to do that.
