Felt Gift Tags and Ornaments

My family does an ornament exchange every Christmas as part of our family Christmas party. We all draw names and we have to get an ornament for that person. Most people buy the ornaments they give but I like to make most of the ones my family brings. This year I had plans to crochet most of our ornaments, I had specific things picked out for each person. We held our family Christmas party on Thanksgiving after dinner this year and I don't know why but November seemed to fly by this year. Maybe it was because Thanksgiving was so early this year. All I know is I had great plans and then all of the sudden it was the week of Thanksgiving and I had no ornaments made. I decided that there was no way I had time to crochet a bunch of ornaments, I needed to find something quicker. When I need a quick project I usually turn to my Cricut and this time was no different.

I decided to use my Maker to cut out some felt ornaments. Most of them I made by cutting out felt pieces and gluing them together but with a few I decided to try using Iron On on the felt. I was a little bit nervous about how well it would work since I was using acrylic felt. I was worried it would melt or burn but it actually worked really well. I used my EasyPress on the temperature and time recommended for wool felt even though I was using acrylic felt. I didn't take any pictures of the ornaments I made for the exchange before giving them away but I decided to use the same idea to make some even simpler gift tags that can then double as ornaments.

For these gift tags/ornaments I cut a single layer of felt then added a snowflake to one side and name to the other. They make a cute gift tag with the persons name on it but they can also be hung on the tree as an ornament.

How to Make Felt Gift Tags and Ornaments

You will need:

Instructions:

First create your design in Design space (or use mine that you can find HERE). I chose a variety of tag designs on design space. Then I found several different snowflakes and added those to the front of the tags. I then typed the names that I wanted on the backs and sized those to fit on the back of the ornament.

Cut the tags out of the felt using the rotary blade. Cut the snowflakes and names out of iron on, don't forget to mirror.

Heat the EasyPress to 275 degrees and set for 20 sec. Press the snowflake to the front of the tag, press the name to the back.

Add a ribbon tie to the tag.

I love my Cricut Maker and one of my favorite things about it is how well it cuts felt for quick projects like this. You can win a Cricut Maker for yourself:
