Welcome Sign with the Cricut Maker

I have needed something new to hang on my door and for a while now I have been wanting to make a wooden welcome sign. After a summer of not having a lot of time to craft I finally sat down and made my welcome sign. It felt really great to get some crafting time in and even better to finish a project that I could use in my home.

I really wanted to combine the flat wood surface with something that would give it a little more depth so I decided I wanted to incorporate some felt flowers.

I first added a wreath shape with the word welcome inside that I cut out of vinyl to the wood plaque. I was a little bit nervous about how well the vinyl would stick to the board since the board was a little rough but I had no problems at all.

Then I put together some felt flowers and added them around the wreath. One of my favorite things to cut on my Cricut Maker is felt. I love how well the rotary blade cuts the felt as well as lots of other fabrics. One of my biggest Cricut fails was attempting to cut felt on my Explore machine, the blade pulled and drug the felt, it destroyed my mat, and was just a complete disaster. Later I found out that to cut felt on the explore machines you are supposed to add stabilizer but I never really wanted to try after that experience. When I first cut felt with the rotary blade I was so excited with how easily and smoothly it cut. I think the felt flowers on this project were the perfect finishing touch.

This was a super quick project to make, and a lot of fun. I love the way it turned out. I usually try to hang something kind of seasonal on the door but during times when there isn't really a holiday close, like right now, I liked the idea of having something that could work for anytime of the year.

How to Make a Welcome Sign with Felt Flowers

You will need:

Instructions:

Open the file in Design Space {https://design.cricut.com/#/design/104431782}.

Cut the welcome wreath out of the pebble color vinyl using the light grip mat and fine point blade.

Cut the flowers out of felt using the rotary blade and the fabric grip mat. I used the pink, purple and red felt to cut my flowers and the darker shade of green for my leaves.

Weed your vinyl design and use transfer tape to apply the design to the wooden sign.

Roll your flowers, gluing as you go to secure them.

To roll the pink and red flowers (the spiral cut ones) start at the outside to the spiral and glue along the bottom edge as you go. when you get to the circle in the center glue the circle to the bottom of the flower.

For the purple flowers first fold the strip in half and glue the long edges so that it stays folded. Then starting at the skinnier side begin rolling the flower, gluing along the bottom as you go. Then take the other flower piece that looks sort of like an asterisk * and glue that piece on the bottom of your flower.

Once your flowers are rolled you will probably want to fluff them a little bit, sort of pull the outside petals so that they are a little more open. This is especially the case with the purple pom pom flowers.

Once you have all of your flowers rolled, determine where you want them to be placed on your sign. I put a group of 3 flowers towards the top and a larger group of 6 at the bottom.

Glue all of the flowers and leaves in place and your welcome sign is finished!
