Blue Paradise Cowl

I recently had the opportunity to try out some new yarn, which is always a lot of fun. This time the yarn is Cotton Fleece by Brown Sheep Company.

It is a cotton wool blend (80% cotton/20% wool), and the combination makes this a great yarn for all year round. The cotton makes it cooler to wear while the wool gives it added resilience.

It also comes in a huge range of colors, 60 different colors, as well as 2 different weights. I used the DK weight in the color Blue Paradise. I loved the bright rich blue color.

I originally thought to make a baby blanket, and I think it would make a beautiful one, but I decided to go a different route because it is a hand wash yarn and I prefer machine washable for baby items. In the end I decided on a cowl.

Overall it was really great to work with. It is not stiff like some cotton yarns can be, maybe thanks to the blend. I did find it was occasionally a little splitty, which is common with cotton.

The cowl pattern is made with a simple 4 row repeat and although I chose to make a cowl length, you could easily make it longer so it is more of an infinity scarf, or even a long straight scarf.

How to Make a Blue Paradise Cowl

You will need:

• 1 skein Cotton Fleece in Blue Paradise
• H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• yarn needle
• scissors

Instructions:

Special Stitch-  

2dc cluster: yo, insert in stitch, yo, pull up loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, insert in stitch, yo, pull through loop, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through all loops

Beginning ch 3 counts as a dc

ch 31

Row 1: dc in 4th ch and each ch to the end (29 dc)

Row 2: ch 4, turn (counts as dc and ch 1), skip 1 stitch, dc in next stitch, [ch 1, skip next stitch, dc in next stitch] repeat to the end (15 dc, 14 ch sp)

Row 3: ch 3, turn, [skip dc, 2dc cluster in ch sp, ch 1] repeat to the last ch sp, dc in last stitch (14, 2dc clusters, 13 ch sp, 2 dc)

Row 4: ch 4, turn, [skip dc cluster, dc in ch sp, ch 1] repeat to last ch sp, dc in last stitch (15 dc, 14 ch sp)

Row 5: ch 3, turn, dc in each stitch (29 dc)

Repeat rows 2-5 until desired length is reached, ending on row 4 (I did 13 repeats)

Sew short ends together and weave in ends
