Fair Isle Crochet Projects Book Review

For all of the crocheters out there, do you ever have certain techniques or types of crochet that you have never really tried but would like to learn? I love trying and learning new things. This could totally apply to other crafts too, but in this instance I am going to talk specifically about crochet.

One of the crochet techniques that I have been wanting to try more of is colorwork and graphed patterns. I have done some corner to corner projects and am pretty comfortable with it, as well as basic graph reading. But I also know there are a lot of different techniques that can be used to crochet graphs and I have been wanting to try some of them. Especially because you can get a lot more detail with some of them than you can with blocks of 3 double crochet.

When I was asked if I would like to review a copy of Fair Isle Crochet Projects I figured it was a great opportunity to try something I had been wanting to try for a while. It uses single crochet stitches worked in the back loops to create the designs. Including detailed instructions on how to work the stitches, how to carry your yarn, and how to change colors.

I decided to try one of the patterns in the book, the Laurel Leaves Hat. I changed it up a little, making it in only 2 colors instead of 4.

It was really easy to learn and I can't wait to use this technique in future projects.
