Celestial Swirl Scarf

I was recently sent some yarn to try out from Brown Sheep Yarns and I thought it would be fun to use it to try out a new scarf pattern. The yarn, Stratosphere, is a DK weight super wash wool.

It comes in 26 different colors, including solids and kettle dyed colors. I love the soft variation in the kettle dyed colors so I chose a couple of those. All of the colors names are sky or space related, the ones I chose were Celestial and Northern Lights. I only ended up using one color in the end, Celestial, but they are both such pretty colors.

It was really hard to choose colors because there were so many pretty ones to choose from. Each hank  has 260 yards which was more than enough to make the cowl that I made.

Being a Superwash wool it can be machine washed on gentle, then laid flat to dry. I like this because when I make something that can be worn I like to have the option of machine washing, especially if I make something for kids, which with its DK weight this yarn would be great for.

I made a simple circle scarf or cowl pattern that can easily be adapted to make it the length that you want. I chose a simple cowl style, but I think it would also look pretty in a longer, loopable style as well. The simple repeat makes it easy to adjust the length to the style and fit you want.

How to Crochet a Celestial Swirl Scarf

You will need:

• 1 skein Stratosphere in desired color
• I crochet hook (5.5mm)
• scissors 
• yarn needle

Instructions:

This pattern has a 5 stitch repeat so you can make the beginning chain as long as you want your scarf to be, as long as it is a multiple of 5. 

ch 100, join to first ch with sl st

Round 1: ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each stitch, sl st to beginning ch to join (100 hdc)

Round 2: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in next 3 stitches, ch 1, skip 1 stitch, [dc in next 4 stitches, ch 1, skip 1] repeat around, slip stitch to first stitch to join (80 dc, 20 ch spaces)

Round 3: sl st into next stitch, ch 3,  (counts as first dc), dc in next 3 stitches (including the ch space from the previous round), ch 1, skip 1 stitch, [dc in next 4 stitches, ch 1, skip 1] repeat around, slip stitch to first stitch to join (80 dc, 20 ch spaces)

Round 4-12: repeat round 3 

Round 13: ch 2 (counts as first hdc), hdc in each stitch around, sl st to first st to join (100 hdc)

Finish off and weave in all ends.
