5 Little Monsters: Mini Ami Animals

Mini Ami Animals

Recently I was organizing my yarn and my 8 year old daughter was helping me. She found a tiny little ball of pink/multicolor yarn and she asked me to make her a little stuffed bunny for her doll. There wasn't really enough yarn so I paired it with some other pink yarn and make a super quick, super ugly, little bunny.

It really was an ugly little thing, but it gave me an idea to make a set of little animals that the kids could play with, either as a stuffed animal for their dolls or as a set of toys they could play with on their own.

These animals are slightly larger than the original ugly bunny, but I liked this size a little better. It is a good size to play with and also still works with their 18" dolls. The first bunny I made with Lucy I ran out of the multicolor yarn so she ended up being pink with a little rainbow shirt. I decided to keep the little shirt with this set, but you could definitely make them one color if you want.

I decided not to stop with a bunny and also made a bear, and a cat. The bodies are all made exactly the same so with one basic pattern you can make all three. The only differences are the ears and tails. I also added a skirt option that can be added to any of the animals.

How to Crochet Mini Ami Animals

You will need:

Instructions:

All of the animals are made with the same body and arms. There are a couple of notes to pay attention to if you are planning on either using safety eyes rather than embroidery the eyes on, or if you are using the skirt option. Each of the 3 animals has a different ear and tail pattern, the skirt can be added to any of the animals.

The head, body, and legs are made in one piece. The arms ears and tails are sewn on.

Round 7: 1 sc in each stitch (24 sc)

Round 8: 1 sc in each stitch (24 sc)

Round 9: [sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 2 stitches] repeat around (18 sc)

Round 17: 1 sc in each stitch (18 sc)

Round 18: (this will be the first round of leg 1) sc in 9 stitches, sk next 9 (9 sc)

(note: if using safety eyes you will want to make sure that the eyes are on the front of the head when you make the legs, to do this before stitching round 18 flatten the bottom of your body so that the eyes are on the front, find the midpoint of the front and back and divide is so you have 9 stitches on the left side and the right side, work in one set of 9 stitches (this may mean instead off working in 9 stitches straight and then skipping 9 you might work 1 skip 9 then work 8, or you may work 4 skip 9 work 5) you just want to make sure your legs are split down the middle of the front rather than on the side of your animal.)

Round 19: sc in each of the 9 stitches worked in the previous round (you will leave the 9 unworked stitches from round 18 unworked) (9 sc)

Round 20: 1 sc in each stitch (9 sc)

Round 21: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2] repeat (6 sc)

Round 4: [sc2tog, 1 sc in next 2] repeat (6 sc)

Finish off leaving long tail for sewing

Make sure legs are stuffed, add any last bits of stuffing you need, then stitch the bottoms of the legs closed, weave in ends and cut yarn.

Last you will notice there is a small gap left between the legs, to close this thread the needle with the beginning tail from your second leg, stitch a couple times to close the gap, weave in the end and cut yarn.

Round 4: 1 sc in each stitch (8 sc)

SKIRT

To add a skirt to one of the animals bodies you should have left the front loops unworked when working round 16 per the note found in the body instructions.

Join your yarn to one of the unworked loops (I like to start in the back so the join is less noticeable)

Round 1: ch 2, [2 dc in first stitch, 1 double crochet in next stitch] repeat around (27 dc)
