5 Little Monsters: Quick and Cozy Crocheted Beanie

Quick and Cozy Crocheted Beanie

Life has been a little crazy for me lately, and sometimes when that happens I stop working on creative projects. Things just get busy and I have other things that I need to take care of and craft time kind of gets pushed to the back burner. The problem is that when I stop taking that time for myself I feel it, I miss it, it is something I need.

When I start feeling that yearning to make something my favorite thing to do is make a quick project that I can finish in one sitting. That way not only do I fill that need to create, but I also feel the sense of accomplishment that comes from finishing a project. And at times when life starts to feel overly busy, crazy, and chaotic, there is nothing better than feeling like I have finished or accomplished something.

So anyway, born out of that desire to make a quick project I made these super quick, thick and cozy beanies in both child and adult size. They are made with Hometown USA which is a Super Bulky (6) weight yarn.

This is a variation of a the most basic ribbed hat pattern out there, you can find lots of a similar style hat out there. It starts as just a rectangle worked side to side, then seamed together to form a tube. Then you cinch up the top and add a Pom Pom if desired. The difference with this pattern is that instead of just having a straight rectangle I tapered one end to give it a little less bulk at the top of the hat where you cinch it closed.

The super bulky yarn makes this a super fast project, one you can make one start to finish in no time at all.

How to Crochet a Quick and Cozy Beanie

You will need:

  • 2 balls Hometown USA (adult size made in San Diego Navy, child size made in Elmore City Dance)
  • N crochet hook (10mm)
  • Faux Fur Pom Pom
  • yarn needle
  • scissors

Instructions:

This hat is made by crocheting a rectangle that is tapered on one end, due to single crochet stitches worked at one end of each row. All stitches are worked in the back loop only (blo). Turning chains do not count as a stitch.

The finished rectangle measurements (measured across the widest part) before seaming are:

Child Size- 16.5" across x 10" tall
Adult Size- 20" across x 12" tall
