My 12 year old daughter was asked to teach a zoom class to some other girls her age teaching them how to make a treat of some kind. With Valentine's Day coming up she wanted to make a Valentine's treat. She ended up coming up with the idea of dipping Rice Krispie Treats in chocolate and decorating them with pink and red sprinkles. They turned out pretty cute and I thought they would be a fun little treat to give to friends so I thought I would make some easy little tags and share how we made them.
Because she was teaching a class and had a limited time frame to teach we wanted to have the Rice Krispie Treats ready ahead of time, and since I also wanted her to be able to practice and see how they turned out before trying to teach and I didn't want to make multiple batches of Rice Krispie Treats we decided to cheat a little and buy a box of treats. It made these such a quick and easy treat, and fun to make. You could definitely make your own and do the same, and even cut out different shapes, but buying them made it so easy.
It was a fun way to make a semi-homemade treat that was super cute, and way more special than just a plain, packaged Rice Krispie Treat from the store. She loved handing them out to her friends and family as an early Valentine treat.
We dipped them in chocolate, added fun sprinkles and drizzles on some of them, let them harden, then packaged them up in a little cellophane bag and tied them with ribbon. Add a cute tag and you are ready to hand them out.
I cut the tags out on my Cricut Joy. Because it is so small and portable it was easy to bring up to my kitchen where we were making the treats and cut the tags out right there as we packaged them up.
The tags we made are super simple, I started with a simple circle tag shape and add words and heart designs to them. The Cricut did all of the cutting and writing and made it so easy.
So, if you are looking for a quick and easy treat to make to give to friends or neighbors give these a try! We made them for Valentines Day, but change out the sprinkles and tag and you could make them for any occasion.
How to Make Rice Krispie Valentine Treats and Tags
You will need:
For the Treats
- Rice Krispie Treats (store-bought or homemade)
- chocolate chips, candy melts, or other melting chocolate (we used milk chocolate and white chocolate chips)
- sprinkles
For the Tags and Packaging
- clear cellophane treat bags
- ribbon
- Cricut Joy
- cardstock in desired color
- Cricut Joy pen (I used gray)
- Cricut Joy mat
Instructions:
Dipped Rice Krispie Treats
Pour chocolate chips or candy melts into a small, microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30 sec, stir, microwave for another 30 sec, stir, and repeat until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
Dip the Rice Krispie Treats in the chocolate to coat. We dipped most of ours so that just one end was dipped. Others we dipped the top in the chocolate so the whole top was coated but not the sides or bottom.
Sprinkle the sprinkles over the chocolate and set the treats aside to cool. You can put them in the fridge to set the chocolate faster. Once the chocolate is hardened they are ready to eat or package.
Tags and Packaging
Open the Valentine Tags Design Space File.
If you want to change the writing to say something different just detach the writing from the tag and type in the words you want, adjust the sizing to fit, and attach again.
When you are ready to cut place the cardstock on the mat, cut down to 4.5" to fit the mat. Select cutting with a mat and cardstock, and follow the prompts to write and cut. You will put the pen in first, then change it out for the blade and cut.
Once you have the tags cut out, put the treats in the bag, tie closed with the ribbon and add the tag.
