Wood and Vinyl Summer Decor

Adding a little paint and vinyl to a piece of wood is an easy way to make a quick decoration for any season or holiday. I wanted to make some summer decorations that weren't specifically 4th of July, since that is the main summer holiday that we decorate for, I wanted something more just summery. So I pulled out my Cricut, some vinyl, and paints. 

I had some blocks of wood that were about 5 inches square, that were left over from another project, but you could use any scrap of wood for this kind of a project, or you can buy unfinished wood panels and plaques from the craft store. 

I painted my blocks and added some vinyl and in no time at all I had a couple of new summer decorations. I chose to use adhesive vinyl, but you can also use iron on on wood.

How to Make Wood and Vinyl Summer Blocks

You will need:

• Wood Block in whatever size you would like (I used wood scraps but have used these kind of wood panels before)
• paint (I used Folkart Acrylic in Fire Coral and Patina)
• paintbrush
• vinyl in desired colors (or iron on if you prefer, then you will also need something to press with)
• Cricut 
• transfer tape

Instructions:

First you will want to decide on the designs that you would like to use. I was looking specifically for generic summer designs, not something related to specific summer holidays, but more something you could put up from June to August. I searched in Design Space under summer and found the Hello Summer design that I used on the blue block. For the watermelon design I combined a couple of elements I found in Design Space one being the watermelon and the other was the words.

Once you have your designs chosen you will need to paint your block, then set aside to dry fully. I let mine dry overnight. 

Cut your vinyl and weed. 

Use transfer tape to transfer the designs onto your blocks. 

If you choose to use iron on instead of adhesive vinyl don't forget to mirror your design before cutting. Then weed your design. Press your design onto the wood. The Cricut Heat Guide recommends 300 degrees for 40 seconds.
