Today I am excited to be joining the 2021 Holiday Stashdown Crochet Along. Every Monday and Thursday from October 4-December 16, different designers will be sharing free crochet patterns to help you get started on you holiday crafting. Each patter will either be a one-skein project, or a scrappy project that you can probably make using your stash.
And in addition to getting 22 new free crochet patterns for the holidays, to make decorations, gifts, and more, you can also enter to win some amazing prizes. Head over to Underground Crafter to see all of the free patterns, and get the details to enter to win prizes. The giveaway ends Friday, December 31, 2021.
For my project I decided to make a little elf ornament. I have a collection of crocheted ornaments that I have made over the years that all use the same base pattern to make a variety of different ornaments. I have a Santa, a Snowman, a Soldier, a Penguin, a Bear, and an Angel. I thought it was time to add another to the collection, and an elf is one that I have had on my list for a while. It isn't a one-skein project, but it doesn't take much yarn at all and would be a great way to use up red, green, and white scraps from other Christmas projects.
The main part of the ornament (head and body) is made in one piece and stuffed, then other pieces are sewn on after. He has a pointy hat, bright overalls, and a striped shirt.
How to Crochet an Elf Ornament
You will need:
- small amount of worsted weight yarn in tan (or whatever skin tone you want), white, red, green, and yellow (or the colors you want for your elves) - Sample made with Red Heart Super Saver in Buff, White, Cherry Red, Paddy Green, and Saffron
- G crochet hook
- Polyfil Fiberfill
- 2 small safety eyes (or black yarn for stitching eyes on)
- yarn needle
- scissors
Instructions:
The first part you will crochet is the body and head portion. It is crocheted in one piece and stuffed as you go. You will crochet in the round without joining the rounds. The arms and hat are also crocheted in the round, and stitched on later. If you choose to use safety eyes add them before finishing the head, as directed in the pattern, if you prefer to stitch them on wait until the end when it is fully stuffed.
