A few months ago we had a family baby shower for my sister who was expecting her first baby. All of the girls in the family were invited and my girls each wanted to put together a gift to give to their new baby cousin from them. Each of them picked a little book, and chose a design for a onesie. My youngest daughter's nickname is Mare-Bear, or sometimes just Bear, so she chose a bear design for her onesie and a bear book. At the last minuteI thought it would be fun to add a little baby bear hat, so I made one up really fast to add to her gift.
Ever since then I have been planning to put together a pattern for the baby bear hat. The original was made to fit a newborn baby, but I made the pattern in 3 sizes from newborn up to 12 months (0-3, 3-6, 6-12).
It is a simple double crochet hat with a post stitch ribbing and bear ears stitched on at the end.
Baby hats are really quick to make because they are so small, so they would be easy to make and set aside for when you need a baby gift or to sell at a craft fair. And these little bear hats would be cute for both boys and girls.
