Here in Utah we welcomed the new year with a big snowstorm. We got about a foot of snow dumped on us on New Year's Day. It started in the middle of the night and snowed all day and into the next. I was grateful we didn't have many places that we needed to go until the snow stopped and the roads finally got cleared.
I don't really love the snow, but it looks pretty, so as long as I don't have to drive in it isn't too bad. Since then it has warmed up enough for the snow to mostly melt, and that combined with a couple of rainy days it is pretty much gone, and we are left with everything looking kind of brown and dreary. So as much as I didn't love shoveling all of that snow, now I kind of miss it.
With all of the snow and cold weather I decided I needed to make a new hat pattern to start of the year. I wanted to make something super quick and easy, so with that my go to plan is to use bulkier weight yarn and a bigger hook. Combine that with a really simple stitch pattern and you can make a hat in no time.
I chose to use Lion Brand Hometown yarn which is a super bulky acrylic yarn, that is pretty easy to find in stores, I picked mine up at Walmart, and it comes in a lot of colors. I used two colors for each hat, one color for the main part of the hat, then a contrasting color for the brim. I used a cream color for the brims on all of the hats, and three different colors for the main portion, dark charcoal gray, a peachy pink, and gray and pink mix.
The pattern is available in 5 sizes, adult, child, toddler, 6-12 months, and 3-6 months. Each hat takes a little less than one skein of yarn in the main color (I was able to make one of the largest size and one of the smallest size from the same skein of yarn, the mixed colors are a slightly smaller skein, but still enough for a hat). One skein of cream will do multiple brims (I was able to make all 5 sizes with one skein and still had some leftover).
