5 Little Monsters: Mossy Blocks Crochet Dishcloth

Mossy Blocks Crochet Dishcloth

It has been a long time since I have posted a new dishcloth pattern. They are one of my favorite things to make. They are small and simple, work up fast, they are useful, and they are a great way to try out new stitch patterns.

The stitch I used for this dishcloth is actually one that I was originally using to make a scarf. I started the scarf quite a while ago and while I was working on it I thought it would be a great stitch to make a dishcloth. Then I ran into some issues with the yarn I was using for the scarf, so it kind of got set aside until I can decide what I would like to do. I still plan to share the pattern I just need to start over with different yarn. Until then, I went back to the dishcloth idea, and this pattern was made.

The stitch reminds me of a cross between moss stitch (aka linen stitch, granite stitch, woven stitch, etc.) and granny stitch. It uses single crochet stitches worked into chain spaces to create the pattern, but unlike the moss stitch which is 1 single crochet, 1 chain, this stitch is made by working 2 single crochet, 1 chain, working the 2 single crochet stitches in the chain space. I finished the dishcloth off with a simple round of single crochet stitches for a border.

How to Crochet the Mossy Blocks Dishcloth

You will need:

Instructions:

The finished size of my dishcloth was 8" square. The stitch pattern is simple and easy to adjust if you would like a different size dishcloth. The stitch repeat is 3 so for your starting chain you will need a multiple of 3 +1 for the turning ch. So if you would like to adjust the size of your dishcloth you can just adjust the length of that starting ch to the length you want, making sure it is a multiple of 3+1 (31, 34, 37, etc.). The pattern is a simple 2 row repeat so you can just keep working the pattern until it is the length you want to adjust the size.
