It is Day 10 of the Spring Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. I can't believe we are so close to the end, only 2 days left. Today's animal is a little Donkey.
When I planned the animals I kind of thought I would end up making the horse and the donkey almost the same, just in different colors and with a different mane and tail. But as I was working up the design for the donkey there were actually more differences than I thought there would be.
In addition to the mane and tail being different, I also made the nose and legs a little bit thicker. I feel like horses are a little sleeker and donkeys a little sturdier and I wanted to try to show that in the only way I could making a tiny crocheted animal.
That being said, the pattern is still very similar to all of the other animals, and the same size, about 3" tall.

Embroider 2 lines for the nostrils with black embroidery floss
Add a little bit of stuffing and sew the nose to the head just below the eyes
Ears
Make 2 with gray yarn
ch 3
sl st in first ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch
Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing
Sew ears to the top of the head
Legs
Make 4 with beginning with black yarn and changing to gray where directed, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 8 sc (8 sc)
Round 2: 1 sc in blo of each st (8 sc in blo)
change to gray yarn
Round 3-5: 1 sc in each st (8 sc)
Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing
Sew the 2 of the legs/arms to the side of the body between the body and head, sew the other 2 to the bottom side of the body in a sitting position
Mane
make 1 with black yarn
I used little clusters along the mane to give it a sort of bumpy texture. If you prefer you can just use sc stitches all the way down
cluster: insert yarn in stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert in stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over pull through all loops
ch 16
turn, skip first ch from hook, sc in next ch, [cluster (see above) in new st, sc in next] repeat to the end of the ch
Sew the mane to the center of the head, between the ears and down the back
Tail
make 1 with gray yarn
ch 5
sl st in second ch from hook and each ch to the end (4 sl st)
cut 2 small pieces of black yarn (about 4 inches)
fold in half and insert the hook into the skipped ch on the tail, grab the folded end of the black strands (held together), pull through so that you have a loop, pull the cut ends through the loop making a larks head knot, pull tight to secure, trim ends so you have just a short black tuft on the end of the tail
So cute :) Just a wee note: there is a small mistake with the legs (6sc instead of 8sc) and according to your picture you start the tail with gray, not with black? Hugs and thank you so much for those patterns, love them <3
