It is Day 1 of the Spring 2023 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. In case you missed the announcement- after the Mini Amigurumi Advent that I did for Christmas last year I decided I wanted to do some more Mini Amigurumi Crochet Alongs. I have planned 4 kind of seasonal crochet alongs, 3 smaller ones for spring, summer, and fall, and then another longer advent crochet along at Christmastime. Today is the first day of the Spring crochet along, the first of a total of 12 patterns that will be released over the next 2 weeks.
This spring crochet along will be a farm animal theme, and if you saw the announcement post, either here on my blog, on social media, or in my newsletter, then you saw a little sneak peek of a few of the animals, including todays animal- a little pink pig.
All of the animals are made in a very similar style, with the same basic body pattern, with a few small variations. Because of this they will all be around 3" tall sitting, so they are just little guys. I think they will a fun size for kids to play with, and by the end of the crochet along you will have a whole set of animals.
The little pig is made with what will be the basic body style for all of the animals, with a round nose in a darker shade of pink, little arms/legs, kind of pointy little ears, and a tiny curly tail on its back. I really wanted a little pink pig, but I didn't want the bright baby pink color you most commonly find in light pink yarn. I had kind of a hard time finding a shade that I liked, and especially one that had a darker and lighter pink that went well together and weren't too bright. I really wanted either a peachy leaning pink, or more of a rosy pink, but either way something a little more muted in tone. I finally found something like what I was looking for at Hobby Lobby, I think I have had a similar color before from JoAnn in their Big Twist brand. Who knew pink would be such a tricky color to find.
I chose a slightly more muted palette overall for my animals, but brighter colors would probably look really cute too. As each pattern is released I will share the yarns that I used for each one, but you can obviously use any colors you want. This would be a great project for using up small scraps in your stash because all of the animals are so tiny they hardly use any yarn.
