We are to Day 11 of the 12 days of the Spring Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. For today's animal we have a little turkey.
This was one that I debated including, in fact I think it was the last animal I added to my list. I got it up to 11 and I needed one more and I ended deciding to go with the turkey. I debated between a turkey, a goose, and an alpaca, but I felt like a goose would be really similar to the duck and an alpaca was probably the biggest stretch. There were also things like mice that I considered, but that is something you don't really have on purpose so I decided against that.
The turkey was a little bit harder animal for me to design. I looked at lots of pictures of real turkeys, stuffed turkeys, and crocheted turkeys, trying to decided on coloring and on how I wanted to make the tail feathers. I have a larger stuffed turkey pattern I made years ago for Thanksgiving time that is an all brown body with separate, colorful tail feathers.
But as I looked at turkeys a little bit closer they actually have a lot of red, and a little bit of a bluish color on their heads, and their tails look more like a big feather fan than a bunch of separate feathers sticking out. I feel like just the nature of making a set of farm animals we already had a lot of browns, so I decided to make the head a light blue color to add in something a little different. You could absolutely stick with an entirely brown head and body, or use red for the head if you prefer that to the light blue. And for the tail feather I went with more of a fan style tail in one piece that is sewn onto the back of the turkey, rather than a bunch of individual feathers.
It is kind of crazy that there is only one animal left, come back tomorrow to see which animal completes the set.
