Today is Day 2 of the Fall 2023 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. Yesterday started off the crochet along with a little pumpkin, and today a a little Gleeful Ghost is joining the group.

Like the pumpkin, the ghost was one that I used in the announcement posts, so many of you have already seen it and it isn't a big surprise. But now that we got those two out of the way the next 10 will be surprises.

My little gleeful ghost is made in a very similar way to the way I have made a lot of the little animals and characters I have made in previous crochet alongs. Working with these small sizes I kind of just found some proportions that worked and stuck with them, so you will see similar shapes repeated again and again throughout the mini amigurumi crochet alongs.

However, this little ghost starts out a little different than the rest because of the little twisty tail at the end. It is worked bottom up so you start with the tail, then continue the body and head similar to the other patterns. The little arms are made separately and sewn on at the end.

The little ghost is quick to make because it only used one color, and the only additional piece to sew on is the arms. I used safety eyes and a little embroidered smile for the mouth so that it would be consistent with the other items in the series, but you could embroider the whole face, or cut out little pieces of felt to make an open mouth, the options are totally up to you.

Insert safety eyes between rounds 16 and 17 about 3 stitches apart, embroider a little smile below/between the eyes (you can embroider the mouth now, or wait until it is finished, the nice thing about doing it before you finish is that you can tie off the ends and stuff them inside the head)

Round 20: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 21: sc2tog around (6 sc)

Finish off and weave around opening to close, weave in ends

Arms

Round 3: [[sc2tog, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (6 sc)
Rounds 4-5: 1 sc in each st (6 sc)

Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing

Sew the arms to the sides of the ghost at the neck

  1. Row 2 end count is only 5. Do we start with 5 sc in Round 1 instead of 4 or inc the first 2 sc in Round 2 instead of only 1 sc?

    1. Oops read it wrong. It’s good. Same with Row 6. My bad.

  2. Round 6 end count is only 13 as written. I’m pretty sure you want us to repeat those 3 sc 6 times to give us 18 stitches.

  5. I don't get this pattern I don't have a round head like the picture and my end is not a flowing point. Did anyone else have this problem?

    1. How many sc did you finish off with?

    2. Yes, I ended up adding more to the chest. My ghost tail doesn't look the same either.

    3. The twist in the tail is created by increasing on one side only rather than evenly throughout the round, it isn't an extreme twist, just a little bend in the tail. Are you ending with the right stitch count for each round? As far as the head not being round I'm not sure what would be causing that. It is the same head pattern I have used on almost all of my mini amigurumi that have a round head. Are you adding enough stuffing? sometimes not stuffing well can cause pieces to not be shaped right.
