Today is Day 9 of the Halloween themed Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, three-quarters of the way through. Only 3 more designs to go. Today's pattern is a Spooky Spider.
This one is kind of funny to me because this is a "Mini" Amigurumi Crochet Along and as far as amigurumi go this definitely fits the mini category, the body is about 3" long, but as far as spiders go I wouldn't ever want to run into one as big as this. The body is similar in size to the other amigurumi in the series, but once you add the legs it is probably the biggest in the whole set.
The body and head are made similar to some of the others, except that with this one I started with the head and ended with the body, that was the eyes could be easily added to the top of the head. I also added a couple of extra eyes in a slightly larger size for a total of 4 eyes.
Just like I have for the other black items in the set, I chose to use a dark gray for the spider, and then similar to the bat I used a slightly darker gray/black for the legs. That isn't necessary, you could use all one color for the body and legs, but I found that I like having at least a little bit of contrast when possible so I added the second color.
I also used pipe cleaners to make the legs bendable. I cut them in half and folded them to the size of the leg and put them inside the legs. I only had white pipe cleaners, so I used those rather than buying some, but I wish I would have gotten some black ones because you can kind of see the white through the bend of the leg. So you can use what you have if you have some, but if you are going to buy some for this project I would recommend black, or something that matches the legs of your spider.
