It is day 2 of the Woodland Christmas Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. The pattern today is another little animal, this time a tiny mouse, but instead of wearing something this little mouse is peeking out of a Christmas stocking.
This was one of the first designs that I thought of when I decided on the theme for this crochet along, but then I almost decided not to do it. There was a little mouse in my last Christmas crochet along and there were so many other animals I could have done that I kind of didn't want to repeat it. I thought about putting a different animal in the stocking, but a tiny mouse just seemed like the best fit.
The stocking is made very similar to may Mini Stocking Advent that I made several years ago. The heel can be a little tricky but I have a video showing how I do it. I chose to make a little striped stocking because I wanted to incorporate a a couple different colors, but you could totally just stick with one color. A red stocking with a white heel and cuff would be very traditional and I think it would look really cute.
The mouse is made in a similar style to yesterday's bunny, and most of the animals in my crochet alongs, but it is a little smaller. I wanted it to have the feel of something really tiny. The stocking is partially stuffed, and then the little mouse body is tucked inside. The little ears, nose, arms, and tail are sewn onto the body/stocking to complete the mouse. The tail is once again not pictured with all of the pieces in the picture, with the bunny I just forgot to include it, but this time I wasn't really planning to include a tail until after I put it all together and I just felt like it was missing something and decided to add a tail.
The mouse itself may be tiny but because of the length of the stocking plus the mouse head poking out of the top this one is a little on the bigger side of the mini amigurumi at about 5" tall.

How to Crochet a Merry Mouse
Finished Size- about 5" tall
You will need:
- Worsted weight yarn in gray and desired colors for stocking (Sample made with Loops & Threads Impeccable in Claret, Red Heart Super Saver in Hunter Green and Dusty Gray, and Lion Brand Basic Stitch in White)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6mm safety eyes
- 8 or 9 mm safety nose
- stuffing
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
Instructions:
All of the pieces are made in the round beginning with a magic ring, except for the tail, the head and body made in one piece, the arms, legs, nose, tail, and ears made separately and sewn on. Safety eyes and nose attached where directed, if you choose to embroider the eyes and nose (better for small children) just embroider in the same spot.
Stocking is worked from the toe up, toe section is worked in the round, heel is worked back and forth in rows, then you continue in the round for the cuff. You can work the stocking in continuous rounds without joining, but because I did stripes I wanted them to match up better, so I joined each round. To make a striped stocking change color every round by pulling up the last loop of the final stitch of the round in the new color. Carry the yarn inside the stocking so you don't have to cut and rejoin each round. There is a video linked below to help with the heel if needed.
