This is one of those projects that I have wanted to do for a long time, I think I first planned it around Valentine's Day a couple of years ago, then just ran out of time and never got it done. So then the next year it was on my idea list, but once again I got busy with other stuff and ran out of time to get it done. This year when I was planning out stuff that I wanted to make I was determined to get this one done so I made sure it was one of the first Valentine projects I made. And honestly, it was so quick to make I have no idea why it took me this long.
My husband loves movies, and all things geeky, so he is a big why I came up with the idea for this project. He can quote pretty much any movie we watch that he has seen before, even if it has been several years since he has seen it.
The idea actually came when watching The Princess Bride, when Buttercup realizes that when Wesley is saying "As you wish" he is really saying I love you. That made me start thinking of other I love you type movie quotes. I'm sure there are a lot more than the ones I came up with, and you could easily make your own using other quotes that you like, but I came up with 4 that were from movies and/or fandoms that my family are fans of.
First, I already mentioned "As you wish" from The Princess Bride.
And last I went with "I love you 3000" from Avengers.
Like I said, I am sure there are a lot more you could use, maybe some from favorite movies of yours that I am not familiar with, or some that I know and just didn't think of. I thought 4 was a good number to do a little Valentines collage on the wall or something.
I chose to make them using wood plaques that were ready to go so I didn't need to paint or anything, just cut out the vinyl, stick it on and I was done. I used 2 different sizes/shapes of signs, which I thought would look kind of nice in a collage type setting. You could set it up with a square then a rectangle on top, and a rectangle then square on the bottom, or something like that. But, you could use any size or shape you want, you will just need to resize the design to fit the canvas/board/plaque that you are putting it on.
How to Make Movie Quote Valentine Signs
You will need:
- Cricut (or other cutting machine)
- black vinyl (I used Permanent Cricut Smart Vinyl)
- transfer tape
- wooden signs or plaques (I used 2- 8x8 and 2- 8x10 white wooden plaques with brown frame from Michaels)
Instructions:
If you want to use my designs you can download them as .png files at the links below.
If you want to make your own you can just use the design program of your choice to type up the quotes that you want to use. Play around with fonts and alignment to make them all different.
To use the downloadable designs just upload them into your cutting machine software. I am only familiar with Cricut Design Space so I can only give instructions for that one. In Design Space open a new canvas and click upload to add the designs to your canvas. They are all 1 color with transparent backgrounds so you won't have to edit it at all. Upload as a cut file, and add to canvas.
Resize the designs as needed to make them fit on the signs that you are using.
Cut the designs out of vinyl.
Weed the designs and use transfer tape to apply the vinyl to the signs.
