Paper Shamrock Garland

A couple days ago I shared the rainbow felt ball garland that I made for St. Patricks Day decor, but I like to hang a couple of garlands together to give a kind of layered effect. Plus I wanted something that was green to go along with the rainbow to make it more St. Patrick's Day-ish. 

Wanting to make something green that represented St. Patrick's Day the obvious choice was shamrocks. I went back and forth a little bit on what I wanted to make and what materials to use. Do I crochet a bunch of shamrocks in a line, cut them out of felt, paper, layer them on other shapes, so many different options to choose from. 

In the end I chose to go super simple and it turned out to be exactly what I was wanting. I cut a bunch of paper shamrocks out using my Cricut, with tiny holes on each side to thread a string to. 

I used 4 different shades of green paper to make my garland. Once I had them all cut out I strung them together on a string, and in no time at all I had a simple, cute, shamrock garland to hang on my mantle with the rainbow garland. 

How to make a Paper Shamrock Garland

You will need:

• Cricut (or other cutting machine)
• green cardstock (I used 4 different shades)
• bakers twine or crochet thread

Instructions:

If you are using a Cricut you can open my Shamrock Garland Design Space Project, if using a different cutting machine you will need to make your own design using a shamrock shape and adding a small hole on each side of the shamrock. I made them about 4" tall.

Cut out several shamrocks from different shades of green paper (I used 4 of the 5 shades that came in the pack of green cardstock that I used), or all the same color if you prefer. I used a total of 21 shamrocks, but since I was using 4 different colors I just used one full 12x12 sheet of cardstock in each color. I was able to fit 8 shamrocks on each paper so I had plenty to make the size that I needed for my mantle. 

Once you have all of your shamrocks cut out measure the length of string that you want your garland to be, plus a little extra to tie loops on each end. 

Cut your string the length that you need and tie a loop on one end. 

String the shamrocks onto the string, threading front to back through the first hole, then across the back and up through the hole on the other side. Repeat until you have enough shamrocks to make the size of garland that you need. 

Then tie a loop on the other end to finish off.
