Summer is in full swing here and life has been a bit crazy with all of the summer activities. I have not been posting as much as I had hoped to the past couple of months. Every year as the school year winds down I think that this year will be different and I will actually be organized enough to get all of the projects I have planned done and posted despite every other part of my life being super busy. And then May arrives and there are a million end of the school year activities and then summer comes and everything that comes along with that, having kids home, trips, camps, running kids to all of their activities, and I find myself realizing that it has been almost a month since I last posted and in fact this year was not different than other and I am just as behind on getting posts up as I am every other year.

So this the beginning of my attempt to get back on track with sharing projects, several of which I have finished an ready to share, I just have to actually take the time to sit down at my computer and type up the patterns and posts. And I am starting out with a summer project to use for all of our trips and outings.

I recently ran to Michaels to pick up some supplies that I needed for a project I was working on and one of my favorite things to do when I go to a craft store is wander up and down the aisles seeing different craft supplies and getting ideas for future projects. While I was looking around I saw their tote bags and pouches that you can put iron on vinyl on. They had some cute tote bags like the one I used to make a summer tote bag last year, but with fun prints on the bottom instead of only solid colors.

I ended up deciding to pass on those though and instead I picked up a little zipper pouch. They had a couple different colors/prints, but I chose this light blue with a yellow zipper. I thought the colors were fun for a summer project because the yellow adds a sunny accent to the sky blue color.

I originally thought of adding a crochet related design to the pouch to make a little holder for all of my small crochet supplies, hooks, needles, stitch markers, etc., that I could throw in my project bag and not lose them in the bottom, but the pouch was a little bigger than I wanted for that so I decided instead to turn it into a little summer necessities pouch that I could grab and throw in my bag or backpack for trips to the park, the zoo, or up into the mountains. It was the perfect size to hold sunscreen, bug spray, and other stuff you may need for outdoor adventures in the summer. You could also use it to carry snacks or anything else you want.

I added a summery "Fun in the Sun" design to the front in white and yellow. I used a design that was available in design space and changed it up to make it work for the bag I wanted to put it on. It was a quick and cute project that is useful too!

How to Make a Fun in the Sun Zipper Pouch

You will need:

Instructions:

The design is sized to for the pouch I used which was about 10" x 7", you may need to resize if you are using a different size pouch.

Cut out the design, the words from white and the sun from yellow, or desired colors,  and weed.

Press the design onto the pouch. I used the EasyPress Mini to make mine and used the second heat level pressing and moving around the design until it was fully pressed onto the pouch.
