It is time for another Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, the Summer 2024 Mini Amiguurmi Crochet Along. I had planned to do a poll again to let people vote on the theme like I did for the spring crochet along, as well as last year's summer crochet along, but honestly I just kind of ran out of time. I reached a point where I needed to get started designing the patterns in order to have everything ready in time so I just had to decide on a theme. I had a few options I was considering so I had my family help me decide and they choose...
This was one of the options that I included in the poll for the spring crochet along but it didn't win. I loved dinosaurs when I was a kid so I am always kind of a sucker for all things dinosaur. Plus my 8 year old son really wanted me to choose dinosaurs, he was bummed it didn't win last time. After considering a few different themes we eventually decided on the Dinosaur theme.
I am a little later than I planned getting the Crochet Along going this summer. I originally planned to start it in early July, but realized I would be out of town on a camping trip without internet access so that wasn't going to work. I had to move it back so now it is not starting until the beginning of August. Continue reading for all of the dates and details that you need to join along with the Little Dinos Crochet Along.
So now for the crochet along details:
When- The 2024 Summer Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along will begin on Monday August 5. It will run for 2 weeks, ending on August 17. One pattern will be released each day from Monday-Saturday, with no new pattern on Sunday.
How Does it Work- A new pattern will be released each day of the crochet along for a Mini Amigurumi that fits the theme (in this case Dinosaurs). The pattern will be posted for free on my blog, where it will remain indefinitely, this means that you can join or start up at any time, even after the crochet along is over. I will post the link to the new pattern each day on social media, as well as at the end of this post (this will be sort of a landing page for the crochet along). Once all 12 patterns have been posted I will release an ebook that will be available for purchase on Etsy and Ravelry that will include all 12 patterns. This is a great option for anyone who wants an ad-free, printable, PDF version of the patterns with all 12 in one place, but they will still remain free on my blog on their individual posts (ebook with all 12 patterns now available on Etsy or Ravelry )
What do you need- Now let's talk supplies. This is a great project for using up scrap yarns that you may have in your stash, and for a lot of the projects you can use any color you want, but this time around I decided to use a pack of mini skeins of Red Heart Super Saver. The craft pack of yarn came with 12 mini skeins in a variety of colors and worked well for the mini dinosaurs. But there is also no need to buy yarn if you have a stash of worsted weight yarn you can use, either way is a great option.
You will need:
- worsted weight acrylic yarn in a variety of colors, you will want some brown, green, and orange or red as well as any other colors you would like. I made the dinosaurs a variety of different colors and you could do the same, or choose different shades of green, grays, and browns, for more traditional dinosaur colors (I use Red Heart Super Saver Craft Pack in pastels, other similar yarns would be Loops and Threads Impeccable or Soft Classic, Big Twist Value Worsted, Caron One Pound, etc.)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 6 mm safety eyes (if you don't want to use safety eyes you can embroider them instead)
- stuffing
- embroidery floss and needle (I use black and a little bit of white, but you may also use pink or red for mouths if you prefer)
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
