It is Day 4 of the Little Dinos Summer 2024 Mini Amigurumi Crochet AlongSummer 2024 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. Today's Little Dino is a little Pachycephalosaurus, the hard headed, head-butting dinosaur.
This dinosaur was on my list from the beginning and it was one that I thought would be really easy to make the way I was envisioning, but it was actually one that I struggled with quite a bit as I was creating the patterns. It just wasn't turning out the way that I had pictured in my head. After a few attempts and adjustments I'm still not sure it is exactly what I had hoped for but hopefully it is close enough that you can tell what it is supposed to be.
The first 2 Dinos in the series are on 4 legs, this is the first of the series that is on 2 legs, so there are a few differences in the construction. The head and body are made very similar to animals in my previous crochet alongs, except that I made the head a little smaller so that it matched better with the others in the set. But instead of sitting with the legs out in front like those animals it is in more of a standing position with the body lifted a little off the ground. The tail kind of acts as a third leg to help keep the Dino upright.
The head plate, or bony skull piece, I'm not totally sure what to call it, is made in a contrasting color. It fits over the head and the final round is made alternating treble crochet stitches and slip stitches. The treble crochet stitches pop out creating the little bumps or spikes all around the head.
I used the same Red Heart Super Saver yarn kit that I have been using for all of the dinosaurs in the series. For this one since I was using 2 colors I chose to go with the 2 shades of green, making the body in the darker color and the head plate in the lighter color, but like always you can use any colors you want. These dinosaurs don't use a lot of yarn so they are great for using up what you have. I ended up putting smiley faces on probably about half of the dinosaurs, some of them I planned to and forgot and others I thought they just looked kind of funny, so you can choose which you prefer.
