Today is the first day of the second week of the Little Dinos Summer 2024 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. Day 7 brings us the second non-dinosaur mini amigurumi of the series, a Little Palm Tree.
Like the volcano this is one of the patterns that the colors do kind of matter, unlike the dinosaurs that I have been doing in a rainbow of colors. For the little tree you will need a brown and a green. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Oatmeal and Light Sage, both of which were included in the Red Heart Super Saver Super Craft Kit that I am using for this crochet along.
The Palm Tree consists of a trunk piece and some leaves. The trunk is crocheted in single crochet like all of the pieces, but it does include some spike stitches, where the single crochet is worked into a row below the one you would normally work into, to give a little bit of texture to the tree. I was trying to kind of represent the texture of a palm tree trunk. If you don't want to include the spike stitches you can just work regular single crochet stitches in their place.
The leaves are worked in the round and then flattened and sewn onto the tree. I made 4 leaves and honestly looking back at it I kind of wish I had made 5 instead, I think it may have looked a little better with an odd number. You can stick with 4 like my sample, or try adding a 5th one to see if you like it better. All of the leaves are made the same so you can make as many or as few as you would like. Finish it off with a little smiley face for some extra cuteness and you have a little tree to go with your dinosaurs.
7 days and 7 patterns done, only 5 more to go. We are on the downhill stretch now!
