Today is the day! The first day of the Summer 2024 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. This day has been a long time coming, I have had to push back the start a couple of times due to life stuff, being out of town, and just needing a little extra time to get the patterns all ready, so I am excited to finally get started. In case you missed the announcement, the theme for this crochet along is little dinosaurs.

Just like the other mini amigurumi crochet alongs I have done this one will include 12 crochet patterns released over 13 days (Monday-Saturday, no new pattern on Sunday), this time all fitting the theme "Little Dinos". They will be mostly dinosaurs, but there may be a couple dinosaur related designs that are not dinosaurs. Each amigurumi will be around 3-5" long or tall. With the different shapes of the dinosaurs I feel like there is a little more variation in size this time, but still all around that range.

I decided to start with Little Steggie, a tiny little Stegosaurus with plates down its back and spikes on its tail. I chose this as the first dinosaur because I was obsessed with dinosaurs as a little kid and Stegosaurus was my favorite. I don't really know why that was my favorite, but it always was.

I made all of my little Dinos with a multipack of mini Red Heart Super Saver, I used the pastel pack, but the original would also work well for brighter colored dinosaurs. There are a couple of things in this set that I felt like the color really mattered, but for the dinosaurs I was ok with using a variety of random colors. You could use all greens and grays and browns, etc., but I figured since my little dinosaurs were crocheted they already weren't super realistic so the colors could be anything. For this particular dinosaur I used 2 colors, one for the body and one for the little plates and spikes. I went with pale yellow and coral. These mini amigurumi are also great for using up your yarn stash because they don't take a lot of yarn.

In addition to the yarn I also used 6 mm safety eyes and embroidered a little mouth, this will be the same for all of the mini amigurumi in the set. If you do not want to use safety eyes you could embroider those as well. If you are planing to give them to small children I would definitely consider embroidering the eyes rather than using the safety eyes, but either one is an option depending on your preference. The little stegosaurus is the first of the 12 dinos, come back tomorrow to see what is next.
