I can hardly believe that it is almost time for school to start again, I have even seen some people saying school has already started for them. My kids go back in a couple of weeks. As a result the last few weeks have included some back to school prep, registration, back to school shopping, school supplies, and all of that stuff.
When I was at the store and I saw some solid colored notebooks in a rainbow of colors I thought they would be the perfect base for adding cute subject labels so I grabbed a few. I have made labels for school notebooks a few times over the last few years. Sometimes to label the subject, sometimes with names, but either way it is super easy to do with my Cricut.
For these notebook labels I wanted to keep it super simple and I also wanted something that could be made for any subject and look the same. I figured the best way to do that was just pick a fun font and then figure out some kind of shape to frame it in.
I decided on a simple rounded rectangle shape to make my label, and a cute bubbly font- BFC Magic Story, both of which were available in Design Space and free with Cricut Access. I started by deciding on what size I wanted my labels to be and sized the rectangle to that size. Then I typed out the subjects and sized them to fit inside the rectangle. I chose 6 to make just as samples, to show different subjects, and all of the words were the same size except geography which I had to make a little smaller to fit.
I used the align tool to make sure that the words were perfectly centered inside of the outline, then attached the word and rectangle together on each one so that they would stay together when cutting. You can easily make any subject you want by just changing the word, and even change up the font for a whole different, personalized look.
I used my Cricut Maker for this project but this would also be a really great project for a Cricut Joy. I think a Joy would be the perfect machine for a teenager or college student and it would be easy to pull out and make labels for everything, then put it away when you are done. But regardless of which machine you use it is a super simple way to customize school supplies for the beginning of the school year.
How to Make School Subject Notebook Labels
You will need:
- Cricut Maker (or any Cricut Machine)
- Cricut Smart Vinyl in white (or any adhesive vinyl in desired color)
- notebooks
- transfer tape
Instructions:
Open the Notebook Subject Labels Design Space Project or you can create your own labels by choosing an outline and a font and typing the subject names.
To edit the labels to subjects you want just detach the word and outline, click on the word and type the new subject name. Resize if needed. Select the subject and outline, click align, then center. Attach the word and outline so they stay together to cut. Repeat as needed.
Cut out your labels. I used Smart Vinyl, which is nice because it doesn't require a mat, but any adhesive vinyl will do.
Weed the labels and use transfer tape to apply the labels onto the notebooks.
