Floret Stitch Crocheted Washcloth

I have not posted a new dishcloth/washcloth pattern for a long time, but I have been working on a few bigger projects that have been taking some time to finish and I wanted to make something small that I could finish quickly. A dishcloth is always a great project when I am looking for a quick finish, so I decided to make a set. 

I have another pattern I am working on that uses a stitch called the Floret Stitch, and I thought it would be perfect for a pretty washcloth. The stitch is made by alternating rows of double crochet stitches with rows of slip stitch and double crochet stitches. The slip stitch/double crochet rows create a slightly textured row. I think it is a really pretty stitch in a really simple way. 

I picked out some cotton yarn in fall colors for this project, just because I am very ready for all things fall. I used Hobby Lobby's I Love this Cotton, but any worsted weight cotton yarn would work.  

I don't use Hobby Lobby yarn that often because there are other craft stores closer to me so I rarely go there. But when I recently found myself on the other side of the valley with an hour to waste while my kids were at an activity and there was a Hobby Lobby nearby, I decided to stop in and look around. I actually really like their cotton yarn because it is a lot softer than a lot of the other cotton yarns you can find in craft stores, like Sugar n' Cream or Peaches & Cream and other similar yarns. I also really like the color options. Sometimes I like to have a multicolor option paired with solids, but a lot of variegated yarns can be super busy, and they have some that are a little longer color changes so they work up really nice, less crazy than a lot of other variegated yarn. I chose a cream, rusty orange, and sage yarn and paired it with matching solid for a set perfect for fall. 

How to Crochet the Floret Washcloth 

Finished size: approximately 8.5" square

You will need:

• worsted weight cotton yarn (sample made with I Love this Cotton in Rosemary Cottage and Bruschetta)
• H crochet hook (5mm)
• yarn needle

Instructions: 

*To adjust the size of the washcloth adjust the starting chain and the number of rows, being sure to end with a double crochet row. 

*starting chain is a multiple of 2 +3

ch 33

Row 1: dc in 4th ch from the hook (first 3 ch count as a dc), dc in each st to the end (31 dc)

Row 2: ch 1, turn, sl st in first st, [dc in next st, sl st in next st] repeat to end (16 sl st, 15 dc)

Row 3: ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in each st to the end (31 dc)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 - 10 more times or until you reach the desired size, then continue on to the border round

Border: ch 1, turn 90 degrees so you are working down the side, sc evenly along the side, 3 sc in corner, sc in each st across the bottom, 3 sc in corner, sc evenly up the other side, 3 sc in corner, sc in each st across the top, 2 more sc in corner where you started, sl st to first sc to join

Finish off and weave in ends
