It is Christmas Eve, so it is probably a little late to be posting a new Christmas pattern but I am just finally getting around to getting this hat pattern up. Better late than never I guess. The Holly Jolly Hat is a long, stocking cap style hat for Christmas.

At the beginning of the Christmas season I saw that JoAnn had some special Christmas yarn in their Big Twist brand so I bought a few skeins. I had a few different ideas for things to make with the Christmas yarn, the top 2 were either stockings or hats, and I ended up deciding on hats. Since the yarn was Christmasy I decided to make long hats that were like elf or Santa hats.

The yarn that I used was self striping yarn in a variety of different Christmas color combos so each of the hats is a little bit different in color. I used a different color way for each hat. Like with the majority of my hat patterns I made it in 5 different sizes ranging from baby to adult.

The hat is made with simple double crochet stitches, with a post stitch ribbing around the bottom. I used pre-made pom poms for the top of my hats but you could also make your own. I used the colored yarn for the main portion of the hat, then white for the ribbing as well a a white pompom

How to Crochet the Holly Jolly Hat

You will need:

1 skein Big Twist Value Worsted in main color (samples made in Peppermint Ribbon, Get Merry & Let's Mingle, Yuletide, Jingle Bell Stripe, and Festive Fun)
Big Twist Value Worsted in White
I Crochet Hook (5.25 mm)
Yarn Needle
White Pom Pom

Instructions:

The Holly Jolly Hat is worked from the top down, starting with a magic ring.

The ribbing is a post stitch ribbing, made with alternating front and back post stitches.

3-6 Month Baby Size

Begin with magic ring, beginning ch does not count as a stitch

Round 1: in mr, ch 2, 6 dc, sl st to first dc to join (6 dc)

Round 2: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 2 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (8 dc)

Round 3: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 3 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (10 dc)

Round 4: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 4 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (12 dc)

Round 5: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 5 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (14 dc)

Round 6: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 6 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (16 dc)

Round 7: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 7 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (18 dc)

Round 8: ch 2, [2 dc in first st, 1 dc in next 8 sts] repeat, sl st to first dc to join (20 dc)

Change to white yarn

Round 25: ch 2, dc in each st around, sl st to first dc to join (44 dc)

Round 26: ch 2, [fpdc in first st, bpdc in next st] repeat around, sl st to first dc to join (44 dc)

Finish off, cut yarn, weave in ends

Add pom pom to top
