Today is the first day of the Christmas 2024 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along. The theme for this year's crochet along is Little Nativity. Each day for the next 12 days there will be be another little nativity themed mini amigurumi figure. I decided to start Day 1 with a Little Mary.
I figured that Mary is a pretty important figure in the Nativity so she seemed like a good place to start. The Little Mary is about 4" tall with a little shawl on her head and a little bit of hair showing in the front. Just like all of my Mini Amigurumi sets I added a little face with safety eyes and an embroidered mouth, but this time I made the mouth in pink instead of black.
Mary is made with 4 colors of yarn- a skin tone (I used Loops & Thread Impeccable in Almond), a hair color (I used Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Dark Taupe), and 2 colors for the clothing, 1 for the dress and one for the head cover. Those two could really be any color but I chose to use 2 shades of blue, a darker shade for the dress (Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Cornflower), and a really pale blue for the head covering (Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Ice Blue).
This is the first figure in a 12 day long crochet along. Each day will add to the Nativity set. Be sure to check back tomorrow to see what the second day is.

How to Crochet a Little Mary
Finished Size about 4" tall
You will need:
- Worsted weight yarn in 4 colors- skin tone, hair color, and 2 colors for clothing (Sample made with Loops & Threads Impeccable in Almond, and Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Dark Taupe, Cornflower, and Ice Blue)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6mm safety eyes
- embroidery floss and needle (pink or black for mouth)
- stuffing
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
- optional: if you want to add weighted bases to you figures you will need some scrap fabric and Poly-Pellets
Instructions:
All of the pieces are made beginning with a magic ring. All but the head covering are worked in rounds, the head covering begins with a magic ring but then is worked back and forth in rows.
If you want to add weighted bases to the bottom of your figures you can cut out a circle of fabric about 3" in diameter, work a running stitch all the way around the outside edge, cinch it to make a little bowl shape, add a little bit of poly-pellets to the circle, then cinch closed. The base of the figure is only about 1.5" in diameter so it needs to be kept pretty small. If using a weighted base place it in the bottom of the figure when the pattern says to begin stuffing, the continue with stuffing. This does help keep your figures upright easier but is an optional step. Below is a video that shows the process, just keep in mind that this one would need to be a lot smaller than the one in the video.
