Today is day 7, the first day of the second half of the Little Nativity crochet along. Yesterday was the first Little Wiseman so I am sure you will be completely surprised by today's pattern- Little Wiseman 2.
I know this one was probably pretty predictable, but to be fair I think this whole set is a little predictable. The only question is really the order I release the patterns. Like I said yesterday with the first wiseman, each of the three will be a little bit different in their clothing and gifts. For this second one I went with a robe, like Joseph's, and a flat hat with a "jeweled" band around it. For the gift he is carrying a jug or vase type container.
For this Wiseman I again chose deeper, richer colors than the other pieces. I also changed up the skin tones for each of the wisemen, for this one I used a brown for the skin (Loops & Threads Soft Classic Coffee) and black for the hair (Red Heart Super Saver Black). I used a golden yellow color for the inner robe/body color (Loops & Threads Impeccable Gold), a blue for the outer robe (Loops & Threads Impeccable Misty Blue), a darker blue for the hat (Loops & Threads Impeccable Sapphire), white for the hat band (Red Heart Super Saver Soft White), and red to stitch on the jewels (Loops & Threads Impeccable Claret). Some of the colors are the same as I used on the first wiseman, just used in different ways. I feel like having a little bit of crossover in the colors gives a cohesiveness to the three, while they are still being used in ways that are different enough to keep them each unique. I used a dark orange color (Red Heart Super Saver Carrot) for the jug, trying to go for a terracotta look although I will say that the orange I used was a little more orange than I was hoping for. A tan or brown would also be a good choice, something natural colored.
We are on the downhill stretch now, 7 patterns down and only 5 more to go. As of today we have Mary, Joseph, a Donkey, a Shepherd, a Sheep, and 2 Wisemen. Bet you can't guess what tomorrow will be!

How to Crochet a Little Wiseman 2
Finished Size about 4" tall
You will need:
- Worsted weight yarn in 8 colors- skin tone, hair color, 5 colors for clothing, and one for the gift (Sample made with Loops & Threads Impeccable in Gold, Misty Blue, Claret, and Sapphire, Loops & Threads Soft Classic in Coffee, and Red Heart Super Saver in Soft White, Black, and Carrot)
- G crochet hook (4/4.25 mm)
- 2- 6mm safety eyes
- stuffing
- yarn needle
- stitch markers
- scissors
- optional: if you want to add weighted bases to you figures you will need some scrap fabric and Poly-Pellets
Instructions:
Some of the pieces are made beginning with a magic ring, other start with a chain, which is indicated on the pattern for that piece.
*If you want to add weighted bases to the bottom of your figures you can cut out a circle of fabric about 3" in diameter, work a running stitch all the way around the outside edge, cinch it to make a little bowl shape, add a little bit of poly-pellets to the circle, then cinch closed. The base of the figure is only about 1.5" in diameter so it needs to be kept pretty small. If using a weighted base place it in the bottom of the figure when the pattern says to begin stuffing, the continue with stuffing. This does help keep your figures upright easier but is an optional step. Below is a video that shows the process, just keep in mind that this one would need to be a lot smaller than the one in the video.

Body/Head
Make 1 starting with inner robe color/gold, changing to skin tone/brown where directed, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: 1 sc in blo of each st (18 sc)
Rounds 5-9: 1 sc in each st (18 sc)
Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you work
Round 10: [sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts] repeat around (15 sc)
Round 11: [sc2tog, sc in next 3 sts] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 12: [sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (9 sc)
Change to sink tone/brown yarn
Round 13: 2 sc in each st (18 sc)
Round 14: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Rounds 15-18: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)
Round 19: [sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (18 sc)
Insert safety eyes between rounds 16 and 17 about 3 stitches apart
Round 20: [sc2tog, sc in next st] repeat around (12 sc)
Round 21: sc2tog around (6 sc)
Finish off, weave in ends
Robe
Make 1 with robe color/lighter blue yarn, beginning with a chain and working back and forth in rows
Beginning chain counts as a double crochet
Chain 18
Row 1: 1 dc in fourth ch from hook (first 3 ch count as first dc), 1 dc in each stitch to the end (16 dc)
Row 2: ch 3, turn, dc in first st (same as turning ch), 1 dc in next 14 sts, 2 dc in last st (18 dc)
Row 3: ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each st to the end (18 dc)
Row 4: ch 3, turn, 1 dc in each st to the end (18 dc)
Finish off and cut yarn, leaving long tail for sewing
Wrap the robe around the body with the opening in front and the shorter row (row 1) around the neck, stitch in place (I tacked it in place around the neck as well as s few other spots just to keep it where I wanted it).
Arms
Make 2 starting with skin tone/brown yarn and changing to robe color/lighter blue where directed, beginning with a magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
change to robe color/lighter blue yarn
Rounds 2-5: 1 sc in each st (6 sc)
Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing
Sew the two arms to the sides of the body sticking out towards the front so they can hold the gift
Beard
Make 1 with beard color/black yarn, beginning with a chain
ch 12
Row 1: 1 sc in second ch from the hook, 1 sc in next st, [sc, 2 hdc] in next st, 1 dc in next 5 sts, [2 hdc, sc] in next st, sc in next 2 sts
Finish off and cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing
Sew to the face so it sits just below the eyes with the ends on either side of the eyes.
Hat
Make 1 with hat color/darker blue yarn, beginning with a magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st] repeat around (18 sc)
Round 4: [2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts] repeat around (24 sc)
Round 5: 1 sc in blo of each st (24 sc)
Rounds 6-8: 1 sc in each st (24 sc)
Finish off and cut yarn leaving a long tail for sewing
Place the hat on top of the head tilted slightly back (it is ok if it doesn't come quite as far down on the head as you would like because you will be adding the hat band next) and stitch in place to secure it to the head
Hat Band
Make 1 with band color/white yarn
ch 28
Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook and each ch to end (26 hdc)
Wrap the hat band around the edge of the hat, it should overlap the bottom edge, and stitch the ends together, then stitch in place to secure.
Take a long length of red (or desired color) yarn and embroider little jewels. I wrapped 3 little stitches around every 3rd hdc to make mine. If you prefer you could only add one right in the center of the front, or leave them off completely
Gift
Make one with gift color/orange yarn, beginning with magic ring
Round 1: in mr, ch 1, 6 sc (6 sc)
Round 2: 2 sc in each st (12 sc)
Round 3: 1 sc in each st (12 sc)
add a tiny bit of stuffing
Round 4: sc2tog around (6 sc)
Rounds 5-6: 1 sc in each st (6 sc)
Finish off leaving long tail for sewing
Sew the gift to the hands of the wiseman so that he is holding it out in front of him.
