I have made some crocheted iced gingerbread ornaments, and some Cricut felt and iron on gingerbread ornaments so I figured it was time to make some painted wooden gingerbread ornaments.

I recently shared a pattern for some crocheted ornaments that fit over a Christmas ball ornament. I had gotten a big box of the ornaments and after I made the last ones, using the trinity stitch, I had several ideas for other ornaments that I could make using different stitches. I decided to make a second set with a different stitch. Since Christmas is coming up fast I probably won't make anymore for this year, but there are more stitch designs I want to try so there will likely be more next year.  

Friday Five: 5 Christmas Decor Projects

  

Today is Friday, which means it is time for another Friday Five. This is one of those times that I kind of regret doing the Friday Five theme with only 5 projects, because I have way more than 5 projects that fit in this theme and it was really hard to choose which ones to include on this list. I wished I could either add more than 5 to the list or have more weeks until Christmas so I could break it into multiple weeks either by craft or by project type, but Christmas will be here in just a few week and I don't have time for that.

After I finished my last crochet along, the Bewitching Bears Crochet Along, I posted a poll on social media for you to vote on the next crochet along theme. I had 4 options for a Christmas/Winter themed crochet along, 2 were very much Christmas themed, 2 were more just winter themed. I shared the poll in a few different places to give as many people possible a chance to vote on their favorite theme. The first time I counted up the votes in order to pick the winner the top three picks were separated by one vote each, so I was worried that having people vote to choose the theme may not have been the most effective option. Trinity Stitch Christmas Ornaments

Last year I bought a big box of clear ball Christmas ornaments with a few different projects in mind, and I made a few of them, but I had every intention of using some of them to make some crochet covered ornaments but with other projects I was working on it didn't happen last year. Friday Five: 5 Advent Calendars

It feels crazy to me that it is already almost the end of November, but that means that it is advent calendar time. I love advent calendars and Christmas countdowns, they are one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Whether it is building a little LEGO figure everyday, getting a piece of candy, an ornament, a scripture, a story, or whatever else is in that little pocket, door, package, etc., or even just counting down the days on a cute calendar or chalkboard, it is just such a fun way to celebrate Christmas a little bit every day in December leading up to Christmas.

Today is November 14th which happens to be World Diabetes Day, a day to spread awareness about Diabetes . This is a topic that is important to me because almost 7 years ago my middle daughter, who had just turned 7 at the time, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Since then I have made a few projects for Diabetes Awareness and thought that with today being World Diabetes Day (and the whole month of November being Diabetes Awareness Month) I thought it would be a good theme for today.

One thing that I love at Christmas time is advent calendars or Christmas countdowns. We always have at least one that we do, usually several, whether it be a store-bought calendar- like a LEGO  or Funko Pop advent calendar, or a reusable homemade version that we refill each year with candies, or something we put together to open each day like Christmas books, stories, or activities. It is a Christmas tradition that I love.

Fall is my favorite time of the year, and one of my favorite things about fall is the cooler temperatures. It is also the perfect season for crochet. It is almost November and one thing that I like to do throughout the month of November is some kind of activity to help my family focus on gratitude. Obviously we think about what we are thankful for on Thanksgiving, but I like to stretch it out through the whole month if I can. Sometimes it is easy to focus on the hard stuff or the stuff that isn't going the way we want it to and forget about all of the wonderful blessings we have to be thankful for.

This is a pattern that has been on my idea list for a long time. I once saw an ad for a pattern from a yarn company that was a striped blanket made out of alternating stripes of 2 colors, but they used multiple shades of each color, so if every other stripe was pink some were a darker pink, some a lighter pink, while the other stripes may have been blue, with some darker, some lighter, and others in between. They were not necessarily in any order, like dark to light, just random from what I remember, and the blanket was knit, not crochet. And they definitely used multiple skeins of different shades of each color, not one ombre or gradient skein, but it gave me an idea.

My Mini Amigurumi Crochet Alongs are some of my favorite projects that I do throughout the year, but this year I have struggled to get them planned the way I had hoped. I did my last crochet along in the spring and had plans to do another in the summer and fall but the spring crochet along hit at an incredibly busy time for me with family stuff and by the time I finished I was feeling very stressed out and burnt out. I kind of just stopped posting all together. We had a lot going on with our kids and life was feeling so busy and overwhelming and I just kind of stepped away from my blog a little bit. I had ideas I was really excited about for a summer and fall crochet along, but I found that although taking a break was easy and kind of happened unintentionally without a lot of thought, starting back up and getting back on track is a lot of work and has to be a lot more intentional. I couldn't quite get things together enough to get those crochet alongs going like I planned, and I was kind of sad about it because I had some fun ideas and I really do love them. I eventually consigned myself to the fact that I just had to wait until Christmas, but then as I was working on some fall/halloween ideas so share this month I decided to throw together a little crochet along after all. It is just going to be a little bit smaller and a little bit different than past crochet alongs this time around.

A few years ago I used my Cricut to create some crocheted hat templates. Ever since then I have wanted to make a printable version, since the others were only helpful if you had a Cricut. A printable version would work for anyone. It has been on my to-do list forever and as we are heading into fall and crochet hat season I have been working on some new (and revamping some old) hat patterns so I figured this is the perfect time to finally get this project done.

It is Friday again, so time for another Friday Five. I haven't posted at all since last Friday because it has been a busy week for my family and I have been focused on spending time with them. My oldest son left on a 2 year mission for our church a couple of days ago so the past week has been busy packing, preparing for him to leave, doing a few last things as a family before he is gone for 2 years. But like I mentioned last week I have so many fall projects to share, as well as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas projects, that I don't want to miss any more weeks of Friday Five. It has been a few weeks since I have done a Friday Five, but as we are heading into the last few months of the year Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are just around the corner. One of my favorite fall crochet projects is crocheted pumpkins. I love making them with different stitches to give them interesting texture. It kind of gives me a sweater type vibe, cozy and perfect for cool fall days. I have recently been working on some behind the scenes stuff on my blog, and part of the included going through old posts and organizing and sorting them. It was fun to look back through all of the projects I have made over the past 10 years. As I was going through them I thought it would be fun to share some of those older posts more often. I want to do this in a few ways, including sharing them in emails and on social media, but one of the ways I decided I wanted to share those posts was to do a weekly roundup post. I have done this a few times in the past but not on a super regular basis. This time I want to start a weekly series. I am going to call it the Friday Five and each week I will choose a theme and select 5 posts to share that fit that theme. It could be a seasonal theme, a type of project, type of craft, anything that ties those 5 projects together. It has been a long time since I have gotten posts up on my blog consistently and it has kind of gotten me in a bit of a creative funk. Life just got super busy, the end of the school year and all of the craziness that goes along with that, and then summer break started and it seemed like I was spending all of my time running kids to all of their activities, camps, and friends houses. Crochet projects in the summer is kind of an interesting topic. Traditionally I think most people associate crochet with fall and winter, colder weather seasons, making things like hats, scarves, and blankets. But the truth is there are so many things that you can make and use during the summer, as well as plenty of things that you can make year round. Today is the last day of the Spring 2025 Little Safari Mini Amigururmi Crochet Along, Day 12.  I think if you are paying attention to the animals that have been included so far today's animal won't be a big surprise. I think it is one of the first animals many people think of when they think of the African savanna. I don't think you can have a safari themed project without including a giraffe, so for the final animal of the Little Safari Crochet Along is a Little Giraffe.

It is later than I planned, it has taken me a long time to decide on a theme and figure out how I wanted to make the pieces this time, but I am excited to announce that it is finally time for another Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along, the Spring 2025 Mini Amigurumi Crochet Along.
