When I think of January I think of cold and snowy. We haven't had much snow yet this season where I live, but I know half the country has been getting hit hard with snow and ice storms over the past couple of days. I'm not terribly sad we haven't had lots of snow because I don't really love it, especially driving in it, but it can be awfully pretty when everything is covered in a blanket of white.
I decided it would be fitting to make a snowflake design for January, so I did, and I turned it into a washcloth. This snowflake design is made using puff stitches that raise up to create the snowflake design. This also gives some texture to the washcloth.
I used white cotton yarn, I used the Walmart brand yarn for mine just because I was out of white cotton and happened to be at Walmart for some other stuff and that was the only kind they had and I didn't want to run all over town looking for white cotton yarn. It is similar to any of the other worsted weight cotton yarns, like Peaches & Cream, Sugar n' Cream, I Love this Cotton, etc. I have used all of those and more for crocheted washcloths and any of them will work.
I have both a graph and written instructions for this pattern. For the graph the blue squares represent single crochet stitches and the white squares the puff stitches. The puff stitches push out to the back so the puff stitches are worked on the wrong side.
