Today is the final day of my 3rd Annual Book Inspired Craft Week. For today's book I chose a well known and well loved children's picture book- If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. This is a book that I remember well from when I was a kid, and read to my kids when they were young.

I think it is fun to see things continue to reach new generations and this book came out when I was only a couple years old, but then more books were released as my younger siblings and my kids were young. You had If you Give a Moose a Muffin, or a Pig a Pancake, or a Dog a Donut. It was fun to be able to read a book from my childhood to my kids in the original form, as well as new versions. And now my little nephews enjoy watching the animated show based on the books that came out a few years ago. But I don't think any of the versions will ever beat the original.

I knew I wanted to crochet a mouse to go along with this book, and since it is a book for young kids I really wanted it to be something soft and cuddly so I wanted to make it with a soft, thick, plushy yarn. I had a hard time finding the colors I wanted in the brands that I intended to use so I ended up using blanket yarn for my mouse plushy. I worried that it wasn't exactly what I had envisioned so I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but in the end I was happy with it and I think it made a pretty soft cuddly mouse.

I also wanted the little mouse to be wearing overalls, since the mouse in the book does. I wasn't really trying to make a mouse that looked exactly like the one in the book, but I wanted it to be similar and I felt like the overalls were key to that.

This cuddly little mouse is perfect to cuddle with while reading the book. It is soft and perfect for snuggling. Plus the thick yarn and the big hook mean it works up a lot faster than this size amigurumi would normally take, which means you can have a mouse to go along with the book in no time.

Sew the end of the straps to the back of the overalls

Stitch the other end straps to the front of the overalls, I used little bit of of yellow yarn to stitch the front of the straps to look kind of like buttons, you could sew on actual buttons if desired

Put the overalls on the mouse pulling the tail between two stitches in the back
