For today's Book Inspired Craft Week I chose a book that is actually part of a series that I shared a book from when I first did this 2 years ago. But this series was a huge part of my teen years, and I wanted to include another from the series. The book I chose for this project is Rilla of Ingleside- the 8th and final book in the Anne of Green Gables Series.

When I first read this series I had a boxed set that included the first 6 books, so I thought that was the whole series. It wasn't until later that I realized that there were actually 2 additional books, Rainbow Valley and Rilla of Ingleside. I think that the reason that some sets don't include the last 2 books is because the first 6 are Anne's stories. They are all centered around Anne and her life, even the titles all have her name in them. The last 2 books are centered on her children and she is much more of a side character.

When I read the last two books Rilla of Ingleside quickly became one of my favorite books. Historical fiction has always been my favorite genre and I always really liked reading books set during WWII. This book is set during WWI, which is a time in which feel like there are not as many books written about so it was a time I was less familiar with and had not read as many books about, so I really enjoyed it.

Now for the project I chose to make inspired by this book. I decided to make a baby blanket. In the book Rilla, Anne's youngest daughter takes care of a baby whose mom died and his dad is away in the war. Because of that I thought a baby blanket would be the perfect project for this book. My original plan was to make a baby quilt, but in the book Rilla also joins a knitting group where they make things for the soldiers, socks I believe. I don't really knit but I thought since crochet is also a yarn craft crocheting the blanket would kind of be a way to tie that piece in as well.

For the pattern I really wanted something that had a super traditional feel since the book was set over 100 years ago. I chose a ripple pattern because I feel like that to me seems like a pattern that has been around in some form or another for a long time, and specifically in baby blankets so it fit that vintage vibe I was looking for. I chose a pastel rainbow colored yarn because pastels also feel very traditional baby to me. I used a self striping yarn just because I like getting the variety of colors without the having to change yarns. As I was working on the blanket I made the connections between the peaks and valleys made with the ripple pattern and the rainbow color of the yarn, and the fact that the 7th book is called Rainbow Valley which refers to a place Rilla and her siblings liked to go to play. It is mentioned in this book as well so I decided it was the perfect name for this little rainbow ripple baby blanket.
